Microsoft Office 2010 Tech Guarantee

Upgrade Process

If you purchase a qualifying version of Microsoft Office 2007, from an authorised reseller (e.g. Microsoft Store) between March 5th and September 30th 2010, you will be eligible for our Technical Guarantee. This means that you will be able to download Office 2010 when it is available (Download charges may apply as set by your ISP). Here’s how:

  1. Buy Office 2007
Purchase a qualifying Office 2007 product (with or without a new PC) from an authorized reseller between March 5, 2010 and September 30, 2010.
  2. Install and activate Office 2007
Install and activate your qualifying Office 2007 product by September 30, 2010.
Your activated Office 2007 25-character Product Key is required to redeem your Technology Guarantee Office 2010 upgrade. You will also need to provide your Product ID.
  3. Upgrade to Office 2010
When Office 2010 is available in your country or region and language, go to www.office.com/techg to request your upgrade no later than October 31, 2010. You will have the choice to download Office 2010 (Download charges may apply as set by your ISP), or purchase a DVD for a fee. You must meet all eligibility requirements to receive your Technology Guarantee upgrade.
Your version of Office 2010 may not have the same programs as your Office 2007 suite.

Upgrade Path

The upgrade path is based on the following principles:
  • Which Office 2010 upgrade you receive depends on which Office 2007 product you purchase (see chart below)
  • You will not lose a program unless it is discontinued or no longer included in a suite. In some cases (for example, if you purchase Office Small Business 2007 and upgrade to Office Professional 2010) you will gain a new program.
    • Customers who have Outlook with Business Contact Manager 2007 will be able to download BCM 2010 separately when they get their Technology Guarantee upgrade.
    • Customers who have suites with InfoPath, SharePoint Workspace, and Communicator will be able to continue to use the 2007 versions of these programs if they don’t uninstall them. They will not get 2010 upgrades for these programs.
  • A particular language version of the Office 2007 qualifying product can only be upgraded to the corresponding language version of the Office 2010 Upgrade Product.
  • Academic, VUP, MLK, and military appreciation versions of these products, where they exist, are eligible.
  • Customers who purchased Office Standard 2007 Military Appreciation Edition will receive Office Home and Business 2010, but will still be entitled to up to 3 installations for household, non-commercial use only. The software may only be transferred in accordance with military exchange service policies and regulations.
